How do I get the audio from a YouTube video?
Use any free YouTube audio extractor: yt-dlp on the command line, or web tools like cobalt.tools, y2mate, or YTMP3. Download as MP3, then upload the file here. We do not host or download YouTube content for you, both for copyright reasons and to keep the workflow under your control.
Is this legal?
Downloading audio from YouTube and using it for personal practice is generally accepted under fair use in most jurisdictions. Distributing the downloaded audio or the generated tabs commercially is not. Check YouTube's terms and your local copyright law. We are a transcription tool, not a downloader.
What if the YouTube video is a cover or live performance?
Those are often the best use case. Covers and live recordings frequently aren't in tab libraries like Ultimate Guitar or Songsterr. Upload the audio and get a tab built from that specific performance.
Will this work for guitar lesson videos?
Yes, especially for songs where the teacher plays along but doesn't share the tab. Upload the audio and get the chords and tab automatically.
What about songs where the guitar is hard to hear?
We separate the guitar from the rest of the mix before transcribing. Works on full mixes even when guitar is buried. If the source has no guitar at all, we still extract chords from the harmonic content of other instruments.
How long does it take?

Can I get tabs for a song that's not on Ultimate Guitar?
Yes, and YouTube is the most common source for those. New singles, indie releases, regional music, and covers often have a YouTube video but no tab. Upload the YouTube audio to get a tab from the actual recording.
